Nusa Dua is a very up-market part of Bali and has remained this way for many years. Development started here in 1974 and the ideology behind it was to make an area as tourist friendly as possible. This is a contradiction in that you will only be staying here if you have the money to splurge on  very high end hotels and resorts. Still that being said it is definitely worth a visit if you are a beach lover. Nusa Dua has some of the best beaches in Bali and a popular site is Pantai Geger with its golden sand and safe swimming.

Nusa Dua is located on the Bukit peninsula in the south of Bali and is around 40km from Denpassar. Traveling from Kuta and Seminyak will probably take you anywhere from 30-60 minutes by car, 20 minutes from Jimbaran. You will certainly know when you have arrived as you will be asked to pass through a security check at one of three manned gates. Some of you may be reassured by this level of security although it does tend to give the feeling that you are in an artificial environment.

Nusa Dua attracts visitors from all over the world and they flock here for the peace, relative calm and world class facilities that it has to offer. Unfortunately it has to be said that because it was specifically made for the tourist, there isn’t a great deal going on in terms of culture. There is one Museum (Pasifika Museum +62 361 774935) in Nusa Dua however it is rarely busy and this stands as a testament to the fact that people who stay here are uninterested in the history and culture of Bali. The museum is definitely overlooked and holds some great pieces of work. It is essentially an Art museum covering work from all over South East Asia. It also holds pieces of work from International artists that decided to settle in Bali. Most definitely worth a visit if you have a few hours to spare.

If you are looking for peace and serenity then head here as you won’t be disappointed. Nusa Dua has an extensive range of high end hotels that are all world class in their facilities. Some of the hotels being, Club Med, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel, The Westin Resort, The Laguna Resort, Melia Bali Villas and Spa, Inna Putri Bali Hotel, The Ayodya Resort, Kayu Manis Villa, Nikko Bali Resort and Spa, The Bale Villas and Novotel Nusa Dua.  There isn’t any budget accommodation and you won’t find anything less than a three star hotel.

With the glorious beaches and crystal clear waters there are numerous water sport

activities; you can either arrange this yourself on the beach or have your hotel do it for you. Expect to pay around 25 dollars for an activity. A very popular destination from here is Serangan Island (Turtle Island) as the name suggests it is a conservation area for turtles. The local people of Serangan take care of the turtle eggs and once hatched release them into the wild. If you are lucky you may get to see the little turtles scrambling to the ocean. Usual prices for this tour: expect to pay around 30 Dollars. Once again your hotel will accommodate your arrangements.

There is a golf course in Nusa Dua (Nusa Dua Golf and County Club,Kawasan Wisata, Nusa Dua, +62 361 771791) and is extremely popular with tourists and locals. It is one of three courses on Bali and the one here is by far the most popular. It is wise to book your tee times as it can get a little busy. Your Hotel will be happy to accommodate you and arrange for a driver to take you to the course.

If you are a foodie Nusa Dua really doesn’t have an extensive platter to choose from. Most of the restaurants are located in the Hotels and you won’t find much outside of this. What you will find on Jalan By Pass which connects Nusa Dua to Jimbaran is a selection of Japanese and Asian restaurants however most of the time these places are booked for groups so expect it to be a little busy. The best option is to take a 20 minute drive to Jimbaran to experience some of the best seafood Bali has to offer.

Nusa Dua is luxury and expect to be pampered by some of the most hospitable people you will meet. It does have some of the best beaches and Hotels on Bali, however you won’t exactly connect with the spirituality this Island of the Gods has to offer.
